No matter whether you operate your Steam Deck via a docking station on your TV or you like to have your Steam Deck in front of you - there are often reasons to connect an external controller.
The easiest way to do this is with a Bluetooth controller. From Playstation 3 to Playstation 5 controllers, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, XBOX, the GuliKit KingKong 2 Pro or even the Nintendo Switch Joycons, you can connect everything to your Steam Deck - the only thing you need to know is how to put your controller into pairing mode - we'll explain everything else to you in this article.
Bluetooth controllers are recommended
Wired controllers or joysticks also work, but they require a docking station or at least a USB hub. For the sake of convenience, we clearly recommend wireless controllers.
Connect controller to Steam Deck
To connect a Bluetooth controller to your Steam Deck, follow these steps:

=> Bluetooth (It is important that Bluetooth is activated.)
=> Put the desired controller into pairing mode
=> The controller appears under " Available for pairing " and can be connected
After successful pairing, the controller can be used immediately.
Customize controller layout for each game
You can set up your own controller layout for each game. For most games, other players have provided their configurations - if this is not the case, you can also edit the settings yourself.
To do this, proceed as follows:
