If you plan on opening your Steam Deck to make repairs , mod it, or just put it away for a while , it's a good idea to enable Battery Save Mode .
Valve also recommends this to increase safety and minimize the risk of damage. If you want to put your Steam Deck away, it's best to charge the battery to 50-60% before activating storage mode.
While in storage mode, your Steam Deck will not respond when you press the power button. To exit storage mode, simply plug in the charger.
First step: Boot into BIOS
- Turn off your Steam Deck.
- When it is turned off, press and hold the Volume Up (+) button and press the Power button at the same time - hold both buttons for 2-3 seconds .
- Release both buttons.
- Your Steam Deck should now boot up and display the BIOS menu .
Second step: Enable battery storage mode
- In the BIOS, you use the D-pad to navigate and the A key to select.
- Navigate to Setup Utility .
- Then go to the “Power” menu.
- Select “Battery saving mode” .
- Confirm with “Yes” .
After these steps, your Steam Deck will be in storage mode. Remember that it will not respond to pressing the power button while in storage mode. To exit storage mode, simply plug in the charger.
