There are different methods to take a screenshot on Steam Deck, depending on whether you are in gaming or desktop mode. Both options use existing features and do not require anything to be installed.
Here are the steps for both modes:
Screenshot in gaming mode:
- Press the Steam button + R1 button at the same time - you have taken a screenshot.
-
For hobbyists : You can set up the Quick Access key and use it to take screenshots.
Screenshot in desktop mode (with keyboard):
- Full Screen Screenshot : Simply press the Print key (or sometimes Print) on your keyboard to capture the entire screen.
-
Screenshot excerpt : Hold Shift and then press Print . Now you can select a specific area and save only that area.
Location of your Steam Deck screenshots
If you don't feel like digging through system folders, you can view, upload, and delete your Steam Deck screenshots at any time through SteamOS. Start by pressing the Steam button, then navigate to " Media ." Here you'll find all of your saved screenshots, including those you've previously uploaded to Steam on another PC.
"Steam Button" => Media
To upload a screenshot, highlight it, press the menu button (the small button with three lines above the right stick) and select " Upload ". Confirm the upload, which will add the screenshot to your private library only. To make the screenshot public, that is, visible only to friends or " unlisted ", highlight the same screenshot in the private tab, press the menu button and select the desired visibility setting.
For bulk copying, pasting, deleting, and general management of your screenshots, head to the Dolphin file manager in Steam Deck's desktop mode. Launch Dolphin, click the " Open Menu " button in the top right corner, and check " Show hidden files ." Then simply follow the path below:
Home => .local => share => Steam => userdata => (Your Steam account ID) => 760 => remote
The screenshot folders for each game are named after their app ID rather than the actual game name. Unless you play hundreds of games, you should be able to find the folder you want fairly quickly.
Alternatively, you can use the Steam app itself to jump to the save folder of a specific screenshot, just like you would on Windows. Open the app, click " View " in the top left, then select " Screenshots ." This will open the Steam Screenshot Manager, where you can upload your screenshots or find them in Dolphin by highlighting one and clicking " Show on Disk ."
The normal means of getting screenshots from your Steam Deck onto other devices are, to put it nicely, rather modest. There are other options, which we will discuss in another post.
