The flagpole is long
There was a lot going on here in October! Valve has released numerous updates for the Steam Deck in the beta and preview channels. We have summarized the most important changes from October 2nd to October 10th for you:October 10, 2024: Beta client update
- Steam Game Recording: Fixed a bug in desktop mode that caused the overlay to be unresponsive in games without game recording.
- Steam Input: Custom device settings were no longer reset on reboot. Alternate modes now support trackpad touch for DualSense, DUALSHOCK, Steam Controller, and Steam Deck. SIAPI DualSense glyphs have been adjusted.
- Remote Play: Fixed the black screen when streaming in HEVC standard.
- Discovery List: The animation when scrolling through the discovery list has been improved.
October 8, 2024: Beta client update
- Broadcast: Fixed a broadcast crash caused by the last beta update.
- Steam Game Recording: Added error message when GPU acceleration is missing or hardware video decoding is disabled.
- Steam Input: New alternate modes enabled via D-pad and right stick. Maximum sensitivity of stick mouse mode increased.
- Remote Play: Increased cursor size when streaming with desktop scaling enabled.
- Discovery List: Fixed display of items around videos.
October 4, 2024: Beta client update
- General: Fixed an issue with SteamVR connections that resulted in the error message "SteamVR failed to start for unknown reasons."
- Steam Game Recording: Fixed a regression caused by the October 2nd update that increased CPU usage. Also fixed clip export errors and client crashes.
- Steam Input: Fixed a bug that prevented controller settings from loading.
October 3, 2024: SteamOS 3.6.17 (Beta): Really the end of the line
- Wireless: Fixed an issue with connecting to certain Wi-Fi 7 points on Steam Deck.
October 2, 2024: SteamOS 3.6.16 (Beta): End of the line
- External Display: Fixed a crash when connecting a second display in desktop mode.
October 2, 2024: Beta client update
- General: Updated the Chromium build of Steam. Fixed some common crashes and issues with external drives.
- Steam Game Recording: Added video previews for background recordings in the management and application details. Introduced the option to record microphone inputs along with gameplay audio.
- Steam Input: Fixed a crash when querying controller configurations.
Valve has been working really hard on improvements. Stable connections, optimized inputs, and improved game capture - these updates make the Steam Deck even more powerful!
