Description
What are the GuliKit Hall Effect Joysticks for the Steam Deck OLED?
The GuliKit Hall Effect Joysticks (model SD05) are electromagnetic replacement joystick modules specifically for the Steam Deck OLED. They use magnetic technology instead of mechanical contact points - the cause of stick drift. The result: precise, drift-free control, no soldering required for installation, and a significantly longer lifespan than the original joystick module.
The set includes a left and a right joystick. The original touch-sensing function of the Steam Deck OLED is fully retained. Not compatible with the Steam Deck LCD - there is a separate model for that. You can find it here.
Stick Drift on the Steam Deck OLED - and the Permanent Solution
Stick drift is one of the most common problems with handheld consoles: the character or cursor moves without the joystick being touched. The cause is mechanical potentiometers that wear out due to constant friction. The original Steam Deck OLED joystick module is affected by this, just like the LCD model.
GuliKit's patented Hall Effect principle solves the problem structurally: Since there are no rubbing contact surfaces, there is no abrasion and thus no drift. According to GuliKit, the precision is ±2 degrees - measurably better than the original. At the same time, the SD05 consumes 50% less power than GuliKit's older LCD model (SD01/SD02).
Features at a Glance
- No Stick Drift - Electromagnetic position detection without mechanical abrasion
- Specifically for Steam Deck OLED - Model SD05, precisely engineered for the OLED housing
- Set with Left & Right - Both joysticks included
- No Soldering Required - Drop-in installation, just secure screws
- Touch Function Fully Retained - Gyro activation and touch-sensing as per original
- One-Key Calibration - Calibration at the touch of a button directly on the module
- ±2 Degree Precision - Higher accuracy than the original OLED joystick module
- 50% Less Power Consumption - Compared to the older GuliKit SD01/SD02 for LCD

Compatibility - Important Note
Compatible with: Steam Deck OLED (all OLED models). No Type-A/Type-B difference - one model fits all OLED variants.
Not compatible with: Steam Deck LCD. For the Steam Deck LCD (older models), there is a separate GuliKit model (Type A & B) in our shop.
LCD or OLED - Which Model Do I Need?
The Steam Deck OLED was released in November 2023 and features a larger, brighter display and longer battery life. The Steam Deck LCD is the older model from 2022. Both devices are outwardly similar but have different internal components - therefore, the joystick modules are not interchangeable.
If you're unsure which model you have: The OLED has an orange power button, and the display is significantly more vibrant than on the LCD model.
Installation in 4 Steps
- Open Steam Deck OLED: Remove the back cover with a Phillips screwdriver. No soldering, no special tools required. **IMPORTANT** Remove your SD card beforehand. Otherwise, it will break when opening the Steam Deck!
- Remove original joysticks: Unscrew and remove old OLED modules.
- Insert GuliKit joysticks: Screw in left and right modules. Reuse the old screws for fastening.
- One-Key Calibration: Turn on Steam Deck, press the small button on the module, complete joystick calibration in SteamOS. Duration: approx. 2 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do the GuliKit Joysticks (SD05) permanently fix stick drift on the Steam Deck OLED?
Yes. Since the SD05 module relies on magnetic technology and has no mechanical contact points, there is no wear and tear - and thus no drift. It is a structural, permanent solution, not a workaround.
Does this joystick also work with the Steam Deck LCD?
No. The GuliKit Hall-Effect for Steam Deck OLED (SD05) is developed exclusively for the Steam Deck OLED and does not fit into the LCD housing. For the Steam Deck LCD, there is a separate GuliKit model (Type A & B) in the decky.net shop. Click here.
Do I have to solder?
No. The installation does not require soldering. The modules are inserted and secured with screws. With a Phillips screwdriver, installation is possible in about 20-30 minutes.
Does the touch-sensing function remain?
Yes, fully. The original touch function of the Steam Deck OLED joysticks - for example, for gyro activation when touching the sticks - remains unchanged after installation.
Are left and right joysticks included in the set?
Yes. The set includes both joystick modules - left and right. There is no need to buy a second set.
How does calibration work after installation?
After installation, turn on the Steam Deck OLED and press the small calibration button on the module. Then, in SteamOS under Settings → Controller → Calibration, calibrate the sticks. The process takes about 2 minutes.
What is the difference between the GuliKit LCD and OLED joystick?
The OLED joystick (model SD05) was specially developed for the Steam Deck OLED released in November 2023 and has different dimensions than the LCD model (SD02). The SD05 also consumes 50% less power than the older LCD model and does not require a Type-A/Type-B switch, as all OLED models are structurally identical.
